Let’s check out the bull and talk about why we calve with nature
At our farm, we try to work with nature rather than fight against it.
Part of that means timing calving with the growth of the pasture. That takes some planning ahead, and the decisions we make now will result in the grass-finished beef produced 2.5 - 3 years from now.
Breeding cows now means calves will be born in late spring when the pasture grass is exploding with growth and increasing in quality. The cows will have access to increasingly nutritious grass as their own nutritional demands are increasing.
Nature has a beautiful system worked out, and we would be wise to mimic it as closely as possible.
This is why the bull is here now.
